According to Forbes.com article “Retirement trends of Baby boomers,” Baby boomers started turning 65
in 2011 “ and from now until the year 2030, that number will swell by 10,000 each day. " That’s 70,000
per week and over 280,000 per month.” And according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, projected
openings for Registered Nurses is more than 200,000 nurses each year on average from 2016-2026.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, Healthcare careers are projected to increase more
jobs than any other occupational groups, Thanks to the aging population, which is leading to a greater
demand for Healthcare services. This bit of information behooves Nurses and other Healthcare workers to stay sharp in our skill set.
Lets make education our priority. Lets keep learning and growing and take advantage of educational opportunities that advances our knowledge. Keep an open mind and an open schedule for learning opportunities. Make sure your place of work gives you time off to learn and update your skills so that you will be prepared and confident in your skill set, especially at this time when there are new demands and challenges in healthcare that we face. This is where our priority should be.
